You didn't have to say a word,
You didn't even have to look.
I knew it when you left,
Knew it in my bones
You were here,
But you had already left.

You didn't have to say a word,
You didn't even have to look.
I knew it when you left,
Knew it in my bones
You were here,
But you had already left.

Fret not, little child,
The monsters under your bed are long gone,
The next monsters you must fear
Lurk within the minds of men.
It enslaves their heart,
And lives off their soul,
Construing their figures beyond recognition.
Turning them into a shell of their former person.
Fret not, little child,
Such monsters are a part of life,
They live within us all and live all too well,
For why else would poets of old admire your innocence,
Your childlike wonder, lost to the seas of time?
– Maya Desdemona
Some things shatter,
Some things bloom,
Some things die all too soon.
And yet we stay till we're disproven,
Stay till we're broken,
Stay till we have lost ourselves
Hoping for something different.
What did we stay for?

If ghosts are real,
Then they haunt me.
Ghosts from times I wasn't
And ghosts from times I could have been.
And saddest of all,
Ghosts who would never be.
They haunt me through good times and bad
And yet,
Through all the highs and lows,
They are mine.

For what can Man do,
Except follow its predecessors today?
Regardless of the path,
It all ends with the grave.
Till the heart ceases to beat
And the hand ceases to move,
Till the corpse has no heat
And the mind achieves no feat.
Yet even beyond the grave
All men are remembered in some way
And it is through their ideas,
Legendary and brave.
We know not their life,
We know not their strife,
At times, we know not even their name.
But we know what they did.
A legacy remains.
It will only follow,
Through sickness and health,
Through poverty and death
In hopes that it can even live to compare
To the might of those who left it behind.
– Maya Desdemona
The tongue of the Peasant
Became the tongue of the Noble,
The Noble tongue was then made
The tongue of the Ruler.
Yet when the Tongue was tethered
And the Head was severed,
The language remains,
Still without chains.
– Maya Desdemona
Star light, Star bright,
Could you be a heavenly delight?
Antipodal to the cumbersome day,
The righteous Sun, and the adroit way.
Detached from this world you may be,
Yet you shine for us to see,
Oh star light, star bright,
Never lose your shine tonight.
– Maya Desdemona
Remember you must die,
No matter how hard you try
You must swallow your pride
And simply enjoy your life.
Remember you must live,
In spite of your imminent death
The Soul has not left the body yet
So celebrate every day before death.
- Maya Desdemona
You've conquered the world,
Yet all your power combined couldn't
Yellow the pages of history.
Died for your craft,
Doing the same thing over and over again:
Dwelling on your innumerable failures.
Do you remember now?
You have never been the hero of this story.
You failed.

"Can I go to sleep now?"
My mom said not to,
And dad said do.
But mom is sleeping
In a big, red puddle,
And everything hurts.
But mom won't wake up
To kiss it better,
So I guess I'll go to sleep now.
